Measure Guide For Men

How Do I Know Which Size To Order?

Select the size that best matches your largest measurement (bust, waist or hip).

If you're between sizes, it's usually best to order the larger size so you have rom to move, or so alterations can easily be made.

Neck

Measure a shirt with a collar that fits you well. Lay the collar flat, and measure from the center of the collar button to the far end of the button hole. The measurement in inches is your collar size. (Alternatively, measure around the base of your neck.)

Chest

With arms relaxed at your sides, measure around your chest at the armpits, over the

highest part of your chest and shoulder blades, keeping the tape parallel to the floor.

Arm

Bend your elbow 90 degrees and place your hand on your hip. Hold the tape at the

center back of your neck. Measure across your shoulder to your elbow, and down to

your wrist. The total length in inches is your sleeve length.

Overarm

Measure around your chest including the fullest part of your arms at the highest point

of your shoulder blades, keeping the tape parallel to the floor. If this measurement is

7 or more inches larger than your chest measurement, order the next larger size sportcoat

to avoid binding in the upper arm and shoulder area.

Waist

Measure around your waist, in your underwear, at the point where your trousers would

normally ride. Keep one finger between the tape and your body.

Hips

Stand with your heels together, and measure around the fullest part of your hips, keeping

the tape parallel to the floor.

Inseam

Select a pair of your best-fitting pants of a similar material. Measure from the crotch intersection

to the bottom. The number of inches, to the nearest half-inch, is the inseam length.

Height

Stand in stocking feet with your feet slightly apart and your back to a wall. Measure from the floor to the top of your head.

Regular, Tall, Trim, Short or Big?

Regular describes a well-proportioned body 5'8" — 6' 1/2" tall, with hips and chest of equal girth.

Tall describes a body 6'1" — 6'3" tall, with a long torso or sleeve length. Body length of shirts is 2" longer than Regular. Coat sleeve and body length is 1-1/2" longer.

Short describes a body of 5'3" — 5'7 1/2", with a short torso or sleeve length. The garment body is 2" shorter and sleeves are 1 1/2" shorter than Regular.

Big describes a body of 5'8" — 6' 1/2" with a less athletic profile. Pockets and other details increase in size for a pleasing proportion.

Trim dress shirts, available in some styles and sizes, are tapered, with a 5" drop from chest to waist.

Care For Your Coats

1.The first thing to do before any cleaning exercise is to read the label with the recommended cleaning instructions.

2.Second is to avoid any stain removers since they can damage materials due to the their caustic nature. If the jacket or coat has liners or outside covers, separate and deal with each item accordingly.

If your label indicates you can wash with care, then you can follow these suggestions to get the best results.

Before any actual washing, shake off any dirt or foreign materials. If cloth like material, use a lint remover that uses tape and go over entire garment. Inspect garment to gage how much effort is going to be necessary to clean, sometimes just plain water can be used if soiling is not too bad. If you decide it's going to take a little more effort, then use a very delicate cleaning product like Woolite. Woolite comes in several versions for specific materials and colors.

Never subject any down coat or jacket to normal washing machine agitating cleaning cycle. You can use a commercial washing machine (found at most laundromats) that has no center agitator that could cause your down material to move around and stick together. Or you can just use the washing machine to soak your down coat or jacket for recommended interval. And don't use the spin dry cycle for the same reasons.

Once you have soaked your coat or jacket, take out and use towels to pat dry. You can then hand fluff the material gently to keep the down material from balling up and spread equally around the space. Now you can decide whether to just lay out the coat on towels to air dry, turning about every 30 minutes or try a very brief drying cycle with very low temperature air or just room temperature air for 10-15 minutes. Then take out and hand fluff again to spread out down. If the coat or jacket still appears damp, try another 10-minute cycle and fluff again.

When you check back and feel the coat or jacket is sufficiently dry, fluff again and hang in place where it can completely air out and dry. The key to this whole process is to never wring out or treat the garment rough in wash or dry process. That's what can cause damage and allow your garment to lose shape and insulating ability. Severe washing methods will damage and wear out a down coat or jacket faster than normal wear and tear during use.

Caring for your shirts in the proper fashion will result in a crisp look and a more professional appearance. By treating your shirts their best, you ensure that they’ll last longer and look better for as long as you care to wear them. You should always check the care suggestions on your dress shirt and try to stick to them. Always wash your dress shirt after you purchase it. If you wear it right after buying, it will feel stiff and could still contain chemicals. Use a trusted detergent that is color-free, such as Woolite or Ivory, and machine wash your shirt on the gentle cycle in lukewarm water. It’s best to wash your custom or bespoke shirts by hand.

Are you set on dry cleaning your shirts because you simply hate to wash your own or don’t have time? You can still bring your dress shirts in for cleaning, but get them laundered instead. Dry cleaning can give your shirts a yellowed appearance, so if you want your shirts to last, avoid dry cleaning as much as you can. Mark your shirts “No Starch” and “No Machine Press” when you send them out.

Ironing

• Begin to iron your dress shirt by beginning with the underside of the collar. Smooth away from the collar points towards the back of the neck. Continue by ironing the front of the collar.

• Next, iron the yoke area from the neck outwards, and then iron the pleats in the same direction of the fold.

• Iron the cuffs of your shirt inside out as well. Put the sleeves down flat and iron upwards toward the shoulders.

• Don’t forget to iron the other side of the shirt sleeve before moving on to the next sleeve!

• Iron the body of your shirt by starting at the top and moving downwards towards the hem.

Tips to Extend the Life of Your Dress Shirts

• Ironing your shirt: Check for stains before you begin to press your shirt. It must be clean, or you will set the stain into the fabric. To remove stains such as ink, you can purchase an over-the-counter ink stain remover or use a home remedy such as rubbing alcohol. Remove red wine stains by pouring white wine over the mark and laundering again.

• If you don’t have good quality steam iron, you should try to iron your shirt when the fabric is damp. You can press it far more easily to remove all wrinkles, and it’s less likely that you will damage your shirt in any way.

• Spray your cologne on your body instead of on your shirts. Wait for it to dry before dressing, as cologne can stain your shirt permanently over time.

• Check dress shirts occasionally for damage or needed repairs. Keep your eyes open for loose threads and buttons.

Storing

• Hang your dress shirt on a supportive hanger such as a wooden one or a thicker plastic one. If the hanger has firm shoulders, it will prevent unsightly bumps. Wire hangers are not recommended for your shirts.

• If you store your shirts from season to season, be sure to have them washed before packing them away. Store them in a plastic case to prevent insects and odors from reaching your dress shirts during storage.
